The scanner, also called CT scan is a medical imaging technique invented officially by Godfrey New bold Hounsfield. As in radiography, the patient is subjected to scanning a beam of X-rays the transmitter rotates around the patient at the same time that the receptors responsible for measuring the intensity of X-rays after their passage through the body.
It allows making very thin slices of great anatomical precision. These cuts can be reconstructed in three planes.

The progress of the latest generation scanners have followed the progress of computing today and allow to study the structures become smaller or move as the heart and blood vessels.

The radiology centre is now equipped with 64 detector scanner (General Electric Light speed VCT) covering 40 mm / rotation with a speed of 0.35 360 °. The image acquisition is very fast, usually less than 5 minutes.
Due to the large number of slices (between 100 and 2000), image analysis is done on console (computer). The post-treatment (reconstruction and image processing) may be more or less long and depends on the organ studied.
Certain exams require pre opacification. This can be such a clouding of the digestive tract or injection of contrast in a joint. For the latter, it is called arthrogram.
Arthrogram
The arthrogram is an exam in two steps that requires first an intra-articular injection of iodinated contrast in the radiology department (if no cons noted), then achieving a scanner on the articulation opaque. This is an extremely efficient for the visualization of cartilage of the knee meniscus and some tendons in the shoulder in particular.

Reception
On arrival in the SCAN service, you will submit to the secretariat in order to register your card and your vital support each other.
You wait in the waiting room with the previous reviews in your possession (ultrasound, CT, radiography), your order, and the contrast (if you have been prescribed).
Attention to the arthro-scanner must be present at the radiology department, on the ground floor of the clinic Belledonne, not the scanner.

Preparation

The scanner often requires an injection of iodinated contrast medium in the absence of indication cons.
When injected, it must think of the report following the manipulator or the radiologist:
Pregnancy or desire for pregnancy, lactation
Age above 60 years
Kidney disease, liver or heart problem
Diabetes, myeloma
Injection of iodine older than 3 days
Allergies

Installation

You will be comfortably installed in a supine position on a table that slides into a ring. The shots (cuts) are made during the movement of the table. Your comfort is very important since it will move for the duration of the examination.

Unfolding

The best guarantee of success of the review is a good cooperation. During the examination, it will most often avoid moving or breathing when prompted, otherwise the image will be blurred as in the case of an ordinary picture. It will then begin.

Results
 
The doctor radiologist will generally give you a first result orally. Then, after detailed analysis and interpretation of the images, a written report is established.
The whole of your results (report, stereotypes and CDROM) will be given to you within a time which will be specified to you by the medical secretary.
The CDROM contains the totality of the images. These images are easy to consult on a PC or Mac. You can also easily consult the d' mode; employment present in the heading " Aide" CDROM If you in ridges the request, and when that is possible, you will be able to set out again with the results the day of the examination. It will be asked to you to have patience after the end of the examination.
